The Star takes home multiple awards in national Good Food Guide Awards

PUBLISHED 9 OCTOBER 2018

The Star Sydney and Gold Coast have taken out multiple awards, including coveted chef’s hats and the country’s top service award in the prestigious 2018 Good Food Guide Awards.

The independent awards are the premier restaurant accolades in Australia – hard to win and even harder to retain.

Momofuku Seiōbo has been awarded with the highest level of recognition: three hats, positioning the restaurant as one of the best in Australia.

Also contributing to Momofuku Seiōbo’s success is General Manager Kylie Javier Ashton, who was last night named the winner of the national Service Excellence Award.

Momofuku Seiōbo Executive Chef Paul Carmichael, uses the best of Australian produce to honour and preserve the flavours of this Caribbean heritage.

“We are so happy and honoured to be in the conversation of Australia's best restaurants. So so many people have made this possible and I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you for everything,” said Carmichael.

“Kylie is the best and as her biggest fan, I am so happy for her. So well deserved.”

The awards kept coming last night: Sokyo at The Star Sydney has again been recognised with one hat, firming its reputation as one of Australia’s most innovative Japanese dining experiences. It’s the fifth time the restaurant has been awarded a chef’s hat.

Kiyomi, Sokyo’s sister restaurant at The Star Gold Coast, has also retained its chef’s hat, acknowledging its game-changing menu and authentic Tokyo-style dining experience for the third year in a row.

Chase Kojima, Executive Chef of both Sokyo and Kiyomi restaurants, says the team’s ethos of constantly challenging themselves with an imaginative take on Japanese flavours is a key reason both restaurants have retained their status.

“It’s such a privilege to be recognised by the Good Food Guide. My teams at Sokyo and Kiyomi have worked so hard and it’s to them we owe this honour,” he said.

General Manager of Food and Beverage at The Star, Andy North, commended the teams at all three restaurants for their consistent efforts in delivering unique dining experiences for The Star’s guests.

“We are thrilled to see Momofuku Seiōbo, Sokyo and Kiyomi receive these accolades. We know how good the restaurants are, so these awards are a fabulous public recognition of the excellence of The Star’s fine dining experiences. Congratulations to Chase, Paul, Kylie, and their hard working teams,” said Mr North.

The Good Food Guide Awards kick off Good Food Month in Sydney. To celebrate, restaurants at The Star Sydney – including Sokyo - have created special dining offers, running throughout October.
