As the Principal Partner of the event, The Star is thrilled to share the great range of cultural festivities with some of the most exciting international and Australian artists set to perform at this year’s festival.

Sky Terrace will be open Thursday to Sunday throughout the Festival and on Australia Day with a tremendous line up of DJs performing. So come join us for some fun in the sun and enjoy the panoramic harbour view, delicious food and drinks.

To celebrate Sydney Festival, restaurants at The Star will offer Fast Festival Feasts. Signature dining restaurants Balla, BLACK by ezard and Sokyo will all offer $55 a la carte options, whilst Pizzaperta and Fat Noodle will offer $30 a la carte options.

Andy Garvey

An electronic music specialist at FBi Radio, Andy Garvey hosts the ‘Spin The Bottle’ program on Saturday nights. With her finger firmly of the pulse of the local and international dance music community, Andy introduces some of the world’s most interesting international and local acts to Sydney airwaves. Andy also co-hosts Fbi’s ‘Friday Sunset’ with the Future Classic DJs, a showcase of the finest house, disco and techno music from around the world.

Off air Andy continues to light the dance fire under packed club floors around Australia with her eclectic mix of carefully curated tracks.

Loop Professor

Ben Allen (aka Loop Professor) has been spinning records for 25 years, attaining his musical education following the likes of Norman Jay and Giles Peterson and discovering the breaks and beats of London clubs. As one half of Dynamic Syncopation (later renamed DSP), Allen released a couple of albums and a string of singles on Ninja Tune. Loop Professor’s live sets join the dots between jazz, hip-hop, soul, disco, latin & reggae and seek out the funk in all of them.

FM Belfast DJ’s

Like a space ship falling to earth in a beautiful blaze of glory, FM Belfast DJ's are a delightful spectacle. They bring joy and happiness to the dance-floor. With hats full of tricks, their favourite songs and homemade remixes, nothing can stop them. If there would exist a pleasure guarantee certificate, Ívar and Árni would have them in their pockets. Jack Shit

Jack Shit is the hardest working man in no business: hosting FBi Radio's longest-running program Jack Off each weekend, curating the notorious Newtown dive bar Tokyo Sing Song since it's inception; and providing specialist sonics to major festivals from Golden Plains, to Falls, to Splendour - whilst working five nights a week as an irregular resident at clubs and venues across Sydney. He loves this town and it's bush surrounds with an absolute passion and will manifest a typically bold and vibrant mix of music above the city this summer.

Jane Grigg

Jane Grigg’s diverse mixes – including funk, soul, house, hiphop and electronica – have taken her from Brisbane’s 4ZZZ-FM to dancefloors and radio around the world. In the ’80s she DJed RAT parties with Grace Jones. In 1994, she was resident DJ at a nightclub in Sichuan, China. While living in London and Amsterdam in the ’90s, she DJed and immersed herself in Talkin Loud, KISS-FM and the new French scene. Back in Sydney she presented for SBS Radio and FBI-FM. Jane has also DJed an Official US Democrats (Abroad) Obama Inauguration Ball, Aboriginal Tent embassies and Survival Days.

DJ Lord Echo

New Zealand producer and multi-instrumentalist Mike Fabulous (aka DJ Lord Echo) has been flexing his dual-mastery of 60's production techniques and modern dancefloor aesthetics for over a decade. Recognised for his guitar and production work with NZ’s biggest Reggae export The Black Seeds, DJ Lord Echo will be playing a set blending boogie-laced Funk, disco-primed Reggae, futuristic Soul, and timeless African rhythms.

Pelvis are a multifaceted leisure-system celebrating dance, music, film, visual and spatial design through their parties, clothing, mixes, edits and other projects. Stimulating the senses of like minded mammals worldwide since their immaculate conception in 2012, they are encouraging of any/all dance floors with a preference for the long the late and the loud.

Scratch Famous

NYC native, Scratch Famous of Deadly Dragon Soundsystem brings his specialist knowledge and original repertoire of Jamaican music to Sydney. The Deadly Dragon collective was first formed in Chicago 1995, expanding to Chinatown NYC, where Scratch runs the retail record store, sourcing vintage Jamaican music from the 50s, 60s, and 70s to the present. Spanning decades and genres from ska to rock steady, reggae to roots, dancehall to soul, selector Scratch Famous will be spinning till late.

Raul Pa Nui and Señor Bambu

Through a mutual obsession for deep tropical vibes forged in an underground Tiki bar (Lava Rooms), Raul y Bambú have built a formidable DJing duopoly, now heard on Eastside FM’s Bambu Hut. Raul’s years of rocking Uber Lingua, Latinorama and backstage Big Day Out parties and his Latin roots means he’ll spin anything from Chilean surf beats to Mexican punk and Colombian porro and have any crowd bailar toda la noche. Bambú brings a profound love for Jamaican roots music and tuff global riddims to la fiesta. Expect jumping up and getting down!

Simon Caldwell

Simon Caldwell is one of a handful of DJ's whose name adds a certain integrity to an event. Playing since the early 1990’s to beer drinkers, bum shakers and radio listeners, he has managed to avoid the stifling 'style' classification so many other DJ's trap themselves into, keeping himself free to draw on his varied loves of deep, soulful house, techno, funk, disco, jazz, electro, booty, hip hop and anything else which catches his ear.

Sophie Harris writes for Time Out New York, MOJO Magazine, Rolling Stone and The Times, broadcasts for the BBC and NPR, and loves music more than anything else in the world. Based in Brooklyn, NYC, Sophie has a soft spot for old American country music, Krautrock, African folk and Bollywood. It is her mission to play you the most wonderful sounds in the galaxy and beyond. DJ Yoda

Duncan Beiny aka DJ Yoda is no ordinary scratch DJ. Declared “one of the ten DJs to see before you die” by Q Magazine, his seminal How To Cut & Past series is all about a tongue in cheek mixing style for maximum party fun. The past decade has seen Yoda evolve from hip-hop beginning, using his internationally acclaimed turntable skills and endless influences ranging from funk, trap, pop, reggae, drum ‘n’ bass and even country, to make unashamedly amazing party music. For this one-off Sydney Festival session, DJ Yoda will be playing an all 45’s set from 9:00pm – 11:00pm as part of the 45 Sessions.

Peter gordon

Peter Gordon

Experimental composer and musician Peter Gordon’s music is the epitome of downtown New York cool, taking cues from funk, minimalism, rock, disco, classical and post-punk. One of Arthur Russell’s old friends and collaborators, Gordon is an enigma despite being lauded by the likes of LCD Soundsystem’s James Murphy and Pat Mahoney and having his Love Of Life Orchestra albums reissued on DFA Records. Gordon believes music is all about community, bringing people together with traditional and unexpected mixes to make for a festive vibe.

Royal Headache DJs

Royal Headache DJ’s

Sydney band Royal Headache make garage music with soul, notoriously effervescent frontman Shogun providing the undeniable heart in their catchy songs. On the back of their incredibly successful 2015 sophomore release High, the band have developed a reputation for making every gig unforgettable with passion, power and hooks that demand to be shouted. Their influences are more than just punk though, so be prepared for some 60s soul and garage tunes to go with that Royal Headache energy.

Girlpool DJ’s

Harmony Tividad and Cleo Tucker, aka folk punk band Girlpool, make music that’s pure guts and raw emotion. Influenced by everything from Bright Eyes to beat poetry, their songs read like private diary entries, intimate and passionate, but always ready for a singalong. Unflinchingly honest and vulnerable, the duo work with bare bones instrumentation – two guitars and no percussion. They shout and sing in harmony, leading a quiet rebellion without drums, and their taste in music is beyond eclectic – everything from chart-busting pop tunes to art rock and NY disco.

DJ Krush

DJ Krush

Born in 1962 in Tokyo. Gifted producer & DJ with a superb sense in Mixing and composing his sound who's been greatly received in the international club scene. It was the movie "WILD STYLE" that got him into hip hop in the early 80's, and in 1987, he formed KRUSH POSSSE which made numerous appearances in various media as the best hip hop act in Japan. KRUSH began pursuing his solo career after the break-up of the group in 1992, and soon grabbed people's attention as the first DJ to use turntables as live instruments, doing free sessions with live musicians on stage.

DJ Misbehaviour

In 1990 Misbehaviour firmly planted her roots within the essence of London’s club culture and made her mark at premier venues Hanover Grand and Subterania, (both winners of the prestigious MOBO Awards for best club). Based in NYC, Misbehaviour has performed at Verboten, Output, Brooklyn Bowl, Santos Party House and The Roxy. In the summer she is one of the main DJs in Central Park, for the world famous roller-skating disco. Misbehaviour is a Resident DJ at Mobile Mondays (New York’s Premier vinyl 45 party), which had lead to performances at Afro Punk Festival, New York Summer Stage Events, Museum Of the City of New York and The Bronx Museum. Misbehaviour divides her time between London, New York and Antigua, where she is one of the regular guest DJs for Jazzie B's (Soul II Soul) 'Back to Life Reunion’ Parties. Her clients include many prominent companies such as, Diesel, Saks 5th Avenue, Fiorentini & Baker and BBC America.

45 Sessions

Funkdafied are proud to be working with Sydney Festival to bring you a second season of The 45 Sessions at the Sky Terrace DJ Series. The 45 Sessions is a unique event that showcases DJs who play all 7" vinyl covering many genres that was founded by DJ Platurn of the Oakland Faders in 2010. With international headliners DJ Yoda, DJ Krush, Loop Professor and DJ Misbehaviour, the 45 Sessions will feature Sydney’s finest selectors. We look forward to seeing y’all on the dancefloor.
