Three hat win for The Star at The Sydney Morning Herald Good Food Guide Awards 2017

The Star Sydney is celebrating its success at last night’s esteemed Sydney Morning Herald Good Food Guide Awards 2017, where Vittoria Coffee Restaurant Of The Year finalist, Momofuku Seiōbo took out two hats and Sokyo was awarded one hat.

The news comes just weeks after Momofuku Seiōbo Executive Chef Paul Carmichael and his team were named Best Restaurant of the Year at the prestigious Australian Gourmet Traveller 2017 National Restaurant Awards. Signature restaurant and standout culinary attraction at The Star, Sokyo retained the one hat it has held since 2014 in honour of Executive Chef Chase Kojima’s commitment to bringing extraordinary Japanese flavours to life.

The Star General Manager of Food and Beverage, Andy North said: “We’re thrilled that Momofuku Seiōbo and Sokyo have been commended by the Good Food Guide team for consistently delivering thrilling and surprising dining experiences. “We are especially pleased to join Paul and the Momofuku Seiōbo team in celebrating their achievements after introducing a new chef and new tasting menu to create a completely new and unforgettable dining experience.”

Formerly the Executive Chef of award-winning Momofuku Má Pêche in Manhattan, New York City, Carmichael relocated to Sydney in 2015 to take over the kitchen at Momofuku Seiōbo. Originally from the island of Barbados, Carmichael delivers flavours of the Caribbean through his frequently changing multi-course tasting menu, which is inspired by the bounty of Australian ingredients and his mother’s cooking. Momofuku Seiōbo Executive Chef, Paul Carmichael said: “I’m completely blown away to be awarded two hats and incredibly proud to share this accolade with our team. Since moving to Sydney and joining the team at Seiōbo, I'm so impressed by the team's ability to work together to create a menu that injects the personality and heart of our kitchen into every dish."

Founded by Chef David Chang, Momofuku has restaurants in New York City, Washington, D.C., Toronto, and Sydney.

Momofuku Seiōbo’s other accolades include The Sydney Morning Herald Good Food Guide Awards 2017 Best Bar Food finalist, Best Restaurant of the Year at the Australian Gourmet Traveller 2017 National Restaurant Awards, Metropolitan Restaurant of The Year in the Tourism Accommodation Australia (TAA) NSW Awards of Excellence 2016, and Australian Financial Review’s Top 100 Restaurants 2015 & 2016.

The annual Sydney Morning Herald Good Food Guide Awards were held at Cirrus at Barangaroo last night after a team of reviewers reviewed hundreds of Sydney restaurants and the results will be published in The Sydney Morning Herald Good Food Guide 2017.
