Soak up the glamour and thrills of Australia’s biggest social and sporting event, Melbourne Cup Day, at The Star Sydney on Tuesday, 7 November 2017.

Mark the occasion with decadent dining options at Balla, Sokyo and BLACK Bar & Grill, each with bespoke Cup Day menus. Cherry is also a race day favourite with a 3 hour cocktail party, or gather your best colts and fillies for the all-you-can-eat buffet at Harvest Bar & Grill.

Watch the race that stops a nation from The Star’s 24/7 Sports Bar - the place to catch all the excitement of every race live on Sydney’s biggest LED screen. The full Melbourne Cup program will also be broadcast from Sokyo, Balla, BLACK Bar & Grill and Cherry.

Cup Day at BLACK Bar & Grill | From 1pm

BLACK Bar & Grill’s Executive Chef Dany Karam has created an exquisite three-course menu for the big event. Toast proceedings with a flute of Moët & Chandon and a choice of entrees, including king crab cocktail or half a dozen freshly shucked oysters. To follow, mains of wood-grilled Wagyu fillet served with smoked potato, watercress, bone marrow and shallot, or handmade semolina gnocchi, green peas, asparagus and ricotta – served with sides to share. For a sweet finale, there will be desserts of rice pudding with vanilla, coconut, macadamia, passion fruit and spiced mango sorbet, or warm coverture chocolate ganache, caramel, peanuts and tonka bean ice-cream.

Cup Day at Balla | From 1pm

Get off to a flying start at Balla with Moët & Chandon on arrival and a four-course menu designed by Executive Chef Gabriele Taddeucci. In true Italian style, guests will be treated to a sharing antipasti menu to start, featuring Sydney rock oysters; Mt Cook salmon, thinly sliced with lemon, burrata and radish; and Wagyu meatballs with tomato and almond pesto. Up next, primo of risotto with Yamba prawns, saffron and zucchini flower and mains of snapper with spicy tomato, caper berry and basil oil or lamb rack with roasted eggplant, olives and balsamic. Race to the finish line with Taddeucci’s decadent Tiramisu – savoiardi biscuits, coffee and mascarpone cream.

Cup Day at Sokyo | From 1pm

Slip into Sokyo for a winning cup day offer from Executive Chef Chase Kojima – a 500g rose veal tenderloin with broccoli and anchovy sauce perfect for sharing ($70). Sokyo’s signature a-la-carte menu will also be available, serving fresh sushi and sashimi, tempura and robata with highlights of sea scallop, roasted parsnip koji, aonori and pecorino crisps ($45) and Aylesbury duck breast, garlic ponzu, brussels sprouts, baby cos and wafu dressing ($40).

Cup Day at Cherry | From 12pm

Leading from the front, Cherry will offer a fabulous 3 hour Cup Day party with the ultimate in race day sophistication. Guests will be treated to Moët & Chandon and premium canapes of oriental tiger prawn ceviche, chilli gel and puffed wild rice; gua buns with pork belly, pickled cucumber, soy emulsion and crushed peanuts; and pistachio and strawberry petit gateaux.

$85 per person including premium canapes, premium beverages including Moët & Chandon bottle service will also be available.

Cup Day at Harvest Buffet | 11:30am – 3:30pm

For a race day hunger, head to Harvest Buffet for a memorable, all you can eat buffet. A generous display of fresh oysters will take pride of place for Melbourne Cup.

$55 per adult and $25 per child (5–12 years old).


DJ Havana Brown at Rock Lily | 8pm

International DJ Havana Brown will take over the decks at Rock Lily for The Star’s Melbourne Cup after-party. Soak up the packed set featuring Kitsch78 (4–7pm), Nino Brown (7–8pm), Havana Brown (8–9pm), D-FLAT (9pm–close). The renowned music venue makes the perfect place to toast race day wins, with a premium beverage offering and intimate stage to catch your favourite acts up close.

The Star 24/7 Sports Bar | From 11am

The Star’s 24/7 Sports Bar will transform to the ultimate race day destination with live entertainment, premium hospitality and Sydney’s biggest LED screen to catch all the trackside action. A VIP table package will be the ultimate Melbourne Cup treat, consisting of; the best seats in the house, front row at the 9m x 4m mega LED screen, 24 bottles of your favourite beer, a bottle of Moët & Chandon and platters piled high with antipasto and the freshest seafood as well as canapes such as mushroom arancini with truffle mayonnaise and burgundy braised angus beef pie with tomato relish.

$1,200 + $10 per person service fee. Maximum of 8 people per table.

The Star’s Best Dressed Competition | All day

Stylish celebrity, Erin Holland will be roaming BLACK Bar & Grill, Balla, Sokyo and Cherry throughout Melbourne Cup celebrations to spot the day’s best dressed female and male along with prizes for the best dressed table and the best hat. Winners will receive a range of luxury good prizes from designer Gucci handbags valued at $1,500 to beautiful Chanel beauty pack valued at $500.
