Pyrmont community groups receive grants from The Star Sydney

The Star Sydney presented three community organisations with financial grants as part of its Good Neighbour Plan, launched tonight at an exclusive event hosted by Managing Director, Greg Hawkins.

Friends of Pyrmont Community Centre, The Harris School Community Scholarship Foundation and the Pyrmont History Group were each presented with a share of $55,000, the first three allocations from the newly established Community Grants Program. Other organisations in the 2007 and 2009 postcode areas are encouraged to apply for a grant for local projects.

Three pronged in its approach, The Star’s Good Neighbour Plan aims to bolster the strength of the unique Pyrmont community via the Community Grants Program, a Neighbourhood Advisory Panel - a formal and ongoing engagement opportunity between The Star and its neighbours, and a printed Neighbourhood Newsletter - profiling news from the local community.

Speaking at the launch, Greg Hawkins, Managing Director of The Star explained the Plan is a framework for effective communication and maintaining good relationships between The Star and its neighbours.

“The Star is committed to being a good neighbour and enhancing the community's well-being. Already a regular supporter of local groups and charities, we want to enhance engagement with our neighbours – the people who live and work in the Pyrmont area – and demonstrate our commitment to ongoing communication, transparency and consultation.

“Our aim is to proactively engage with the Pyrmont community, to work together to create a better neighbourhood for all and enhance the community’s well-being,” said Mr Hawkins.

Mr Hawkins further outlined the principles of the Plan, to be open, responsive, timely and considerate and explained how these principles will be put into action.

“Pyrmont is The Star’s home. That’s why we want to proactively help to ensure the quality of the neighbourhood and the sustainability of our community.

“We will be keeping our neighbours well informed about The Star, providing information and responding to inquiries in a timely manner, enabling greater opportunities for the community to share their ideas and concerns, understanding these concerns and working to minimise them.

“Through our three-pronged approach we have already been privileged to find worthy grant recipients, established the Neighbourhood Advisory Panel, and printed and distributed the first edition of our Neighbourhood Newsletter which profiled news from the local community and The Star for everyone in this area,” concluded Mr Hawkins.

The Star launched its Good Neighbour Plan to members of the Pyrmont community, politicians, representatives of local not-for-profit organisations and other groups on 16 August 2016 at Marquee at The Star.
