FAQs

With so much happening at The Star Gold Coast, we’re working to ensure you’re kept up to date. We’ve answered a few of the most commonly-asked questions below, and – but will continue to keep you updated with news and developments as our property evolves.

Property Transformation

What is currently underway at The Star Gold Coast?

The Star Entertainment Group is proud to be investing in South East Queensland and transforming its iconic Broadbeach property into a truly world-class integrated resort.

What is the latest update about the property’s transformation?

On 2 November 2018, we proudly welcomed the Queensland Government’s approval of our proposed future vision for The Star Gold Coast.

Together with our Hong Kong-based consortium partners, Chow Tai Fook Enterprises and Far East Consortium, our proposed future vision could see us inject more than $2 billion in additional tourism investment at The Star Gold Coast.

If fully delivered, it would involve a further four towers and associated resort facilities on Broadbeach Island such as new restaurants and bars, and increased entertainment and retail.

This proposed future masterplan is an extension of our commitment to build the property’s first mixed-use hotel and apartment tower, which we began constructing with our consortium partners in 2018.

Expected to open in 2022, this 53-storey tower will herald the entry of the internationally-acclaimed Dorsett hotel brand to Australia – and the Gold Coast – for the first time.

Adding to the excitement of this 4.5-star hotel and apartment tower will be new restaurants and bar concepts, recreation deck with ocean views and a resort pool for hotel guests.

Our proposed future masterplan, and the new mixed-use tower underway, follows a remarkable transformation for The Star Gold Coast.

Since 2014, nearly every facet of the property has been transformed including:

-> The refurbishment of The Star Grand’s 596-room hotel, a luxurious poolside experience and refreshed property arrival experience.

-> Eleven new food and beverage offerings.

-> A new day spa and fitness centre, Azure Spa & Fitness.

-> An outdoor Garden Events Lawn, Pool Events Lawn and additional meeting room spaces and refreshed conference facilities in the Event Centre.

-> And of course, a new luxury 56-suite hotel The Darling, which marked the completion of our initial transformation with its official launch on 22 March 2018.

What is the proposed development schedule?

Our property’s first mixed-use tower, featuring a 4.5-star Dorsett hotel and apartments, is expected to open in 2022.

Meanwhile, we have received Queensland Government approval on our proposed future $2 billion-plus masterplan, which includes a further four towers and associated resort facilities on Broadbeach Island such as new restaurants and bars, and increased entertainment and retail.

A phased approach is planned for this masterplan, dependent on market and competitor conditions.

Can I still stay and play at The Star?

Yes, of course! While some areas may be closed during the upgrade, you can still choose from a wide array of award-winning restaurants and great bars, as well as the casino, theatre, hotel and conferencing facilities.

Will there be disruption during my visit?

As with all investment projects there comes some short term disruption but we assure you the end result will be well worth it. Our team has carefully phased the projects so you can see the property literally change right before your eyes, while ensuring you can still enjoy all the fantastic facilities we have on offer. Our restaurants, hotel, theatre and casino will continue to operate as usual while the redevelopment is underway, though some facilities or entry points may be temporarily located in a different area.

How many jobs will be created?

Today, The Star Gold Coast employs around 2400 operational team members working across both The Star Grand and The Darling hotels.

This is expected to increase to around 2900 when our property’s first mixed-use tower, featuring a 4.5-star Dorsett hotel and apartments, is expected to open in 2022.

The construction of this tower, which began in 2018, is expected to deliver 1800 jobs.

If fully delivered, our proposed future $2 billion-plus masterplan will provide further substantial economic benefits from both operational and construction jobs.
