FAQs

With so much happening at The Star Gold Coast, we’re working to ensure you’re kept up to date. We’ve answered a few of the most commonly-asked questions below, and – but will continue to keep you updated with news and developments as our property evolves.

Property Transformation

What is currently underway at The Star Gold Coast?

The Star Entertainment Group is proud to be investing in South East Queensland and transforming its iconic Broadbeach property into a truly world-class integrated resort.

What will be new on property as part of the current works?

Our initial transformation, currently underway, heralds a new era for the property and forms part of crucial investment in the region ahead of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games. Six food and beverage offerings, 596 refurbished hotel rooms and a luxury poolside experience are among the already completed features guests can experience on their next visit to The Star.

At the front of the property, the Gold Coast’s first six-star hotel in more than 15 years is also taking shape, and will form the centrepiece of our transformation. Comprised of spacious suites and rooms while also showcasing new signature bars and restaurants, private gaming rooms and butler service, the six-star tower will offer guests new levels of luxury and assist in driving broader domestic and international appeal.

Adding to the excitement of the current development is the addition of a new 200-metre hotel and apartment tower on Broadbeach Island. The 4.5 star tower could be the first of up to five within a future master plan for the property as part of a joint venture with partners Chow Tai Fook and Far East Consortium and takes the property’s total transformation to a combined investment worth up to $850 million.

What is the proposed development schedule?

The transformation of our existing facilities and construction of a new six-star tower at the front of the property are on track to be completed in time for the 2018 Commonwealth Games, while preparatory works for the additional hotel and apartment tower will commence later this year.

More detailed information is listed under our Proposed Schedule of Works or in our latest Stakeholder Transformation Update.

Can I still stay and play at The Star?

Yes, of course! While some areas may be closed during the upgrade, you can still choose from a wide array of award-winning restaurants and great bars, as well as the casino, theatre, hotel and conferencing facilities.

Will there be disruption during my visit?

As with all investment projects there comes some short term disruption but we assure you the end result will be well worth it. Our team has carefully phased the projects so you can see the property literally change right before your eyes, while ensuring you can still enjoy all the fantastic facilities we have on offer. Our restaurants, hotel, theatre and casino will continue to operate as usual while the redevelopment is underway, though some facilities or entry points may be temporarily located in a different area.

How many jobs will be created?

It is expected the proposed new 200 metre hotel and apartment tower, and 17-storey six-star hotel where works are already underway, could generate in total more than 1,000 construction jobs.

Pending approval of the proposed new tower, The Star Gold Coast’s workforce could also increase to around 2,300 employees once the projects were complete and the new areas operational.

As part of their investment, The Star offers additional training and apprenticeships opportunities through the Queensland Hotel & Hospitality School, a partnership between TAFE Queensland and The Star Entertainment Group.
