Christmas At The Star

Christmas in Pyrmont

The Star is Major Sponsor of this annual local community event supporting local charities including Pyrmont Cares and Barnardos. The event is a quintessential Christmas Market with street performers, musicians, food stalls and entertainment.

A group of enthusiastic team members volunteered their time to help decorate gingerbread houses and cookies to donate to the charity partners. They were so popular that they sold out raising $1,260.

Barnardos Renovation Rescue

A range of volunteers joined forces to perform a complete refurbishment at a Barnardos Children’s Family Centre. The team painted the house units, replaced carpets, repaired doors and walls, added artificial grass, and delivered and installed a range of donated goods from The Star, including TV’s, fold away cots, mattresses, plants, furniture, and much more!

Barnardos Renovation Rescue

The Star Sydney partnered with Australia’s leading food rescue organisation, OzHarvest. Thousands of members of the public were offered a free hot meal in Martin Place as part of the 2016 Think. Eat. Save campaign. The Star hosted two stalls and the public were invited to enjoy a delicious, hearty meal of Milli Julli Sabji ‘everything in the pot’ vegetable curry served with Bhatura flatbread or rescued chicken pie with tomato relish. Meals were prepared by The Star’s award-winning team of chefs and volunteers.

Cooking classes with Barnardos

As part of The Star’s partnership with Barnardos - The Star’s Executive Chef Uday Huja along with team members from The Star visited Yurungai Learning Centre on Friday 29 April 2016. Uday taught over 15 children the secrets to creating the best Spaghetti Bolognese in town. Whilst speaking about the ingredients and the importance of a balanced and nutritious meal, the children created their own meatballs which were served up for a delicious ‘Spag Bol’ meal in the afternoon. To make the cooking even more fun and personal for the children, the children wore chef’s hats and serving gloves  while they prepared their own meal.

Taronga Conservation Society Australia

Taronga Conservation Society Australia

The Star team members supported the Taronga Conservation Society Australia by getting their hands dirty. The team removed weeds to support bush regeneration for vital wildlife conservation programs. Bush regeneration attempts to protect and enhance the floral biodiversity in an area by providing conditions conducive to the recruitment and survival of native plants.

Chris O’Brien Lifehouse

As part of our ongoing partnership with Chris O'Brien Lifehouse, representatives from The Darling Spa volunteered to treat nurses with massages. A Chris O’Brien spokesperson said: “Our staff work so hard, especially in day therapy where our patients can spend up to 12 hours a day having chemo treatment. The nurses absolutely loved their 15 min pamper. I wish I filmed some of the reactions after their star treatment, it was just great.”
